Modellen er oppgradert med nytt og tyngre chassis i forhold til tidligere modeller i denne serien.
Between 1979 and 1981, 88 cars were delivered as Y1 and 12 as YF1 for the non-electrified routes. Up to 6 motor coaches could run in multippel service, and 4-5 Y1 in a train was quite normal on the Inlandsbanan during summer time.
